About

the intersection of self-reflection, personal growth, and counselor development

How did The Creative Complement Co. get its name?

The word complement, means to make something better, more complete. This company is all about adding creativity to your personal or professional life to enhance, or complement, your life.

Defining Creativity:

Creativity is the ability, whether general or specific to a domain, to generate novel and functional ideas that foster growth and drive meaningful transformation.

The term creativity is overused and often ambiguously defined. While I encourage each individual to define this term for themselves, I also want to encourage considering the vastness of what creativity encompasses. Through a significant review of the literature, I offer this concise and comprehensive definition of creativity, which accounts for the two main perspectives of creativity.

A Different Approach:

The Creative Complement Company offers a unique perspective on learning, work, and personal growth by starting at the intersection of creativity, psychology, studio art, and mental health. Grounded in the belief that creative thinking extends far beyond artistic expression, we aim to make information more accessible and personalized for the deep learner.

Through educational resources, professional consultation, and research-driven development, we facilitate meaningful progress for counselors, educators, helping professionals, and lifelong learners.

Guiding Values

Reflective

Creativity often begins with learning to see differently. This work encourages curiosity, perspective-taking, openness, and deeper understanding of ourselves and others. Growth occurs as we embrace diverse viewpoints.

Transformative

Reflective practice supports meaningful learning, emotional insight, self-awareness, and intentional growth in both personal and professional life.

Perspective

Creativity and reflection can create meaningful shifts in how we understand ourselves, our work, and the world around us.

Connection

Growth happens in relationship with self, others, and surroundings. Growth happens through shared learning, conversation, creativity, and authentic human connection.

About Brianna Kriley, PhD, ACS, LMHC, LPC

Dr. Bri brings a unique perspective to her work with a passion for creativity and professional development. With a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision, she has received advanced training in counseling, counselor education, and supervision, cultivating specialty interests in each of these areas. Her work is grounded in creative theory and informed by counseling theory, offering a distinctive approach to consultation, coaching, and professional growth.

With early studies in studio art and psychology, Dr. Bri was inspired by the powerful intersection of the creative process and mental health. This foundation led her to explore how creativity can be meaningfully integrated into counseling practices. Over time, this interest expanded to include how creativity can be used to educate and train counseling students, as well as to support counseling professionals in supervision through innovative and creative approaches.

Clinically, Dr. Bri has developed a comprehensive theoretical framework that systematically draws from a variety of established theories while integrating creativity theory, neuroscience, and other distinct yet seamlessly integrated therapies. She continues to develop and refine her own modality, which influences and enhances her clinical practice, research, and teaching.

As the founder and training director of the Creative Complement Company, I design, organize and lead the educational content offered by our organization.
